Project Summary

ZERUST Integrity Solutions® supported a corrosion mitigation project for three in-service aboveground storage tanks located at a major U.S. aviation and transportation facility in Nevada, USA. The project focused on helping protect underside steel floor plate surfaces susceptible to corrosion beneath the tank bottom while maintaining active tank operations.

The scope included implementation of a custom-designed underside injection inhibitor delivery system (IDS) combined with ER probe corrosion monitoring technology to support long-term asset integrity, corrosion management, and maintenance planning.

Asset & Site Details

  • Assets: Three aboveground storage tanks

  • Tank Diameter: ~115 feet (≈ 35 m)

  • Tank Construction:

    • Single-bottom tank construction

    • Sand cone down foundation with liner

    • Existing leak detection ports utilized for implementation

    • Tanks remained in service during installation

  • Inhibitor Delivery System (IDS): Underside Injection IDS
  • Weather During Application: 72°F to 81°F (≈ 22°C to ≈ 27°C), low humidity

Implementation Details

ZERUST Integrity Solutions® implemented an underside injection IDS designed to distribute corrosion-inhibiting solution beneath the tank floor plates through existing access points.

The project also included installation of ER (Electrical Resistance) probes to support ongoing corrosion monitoring and data collection.

Outcome

The corrosion mitigation system installation was completed successfully with minimal operational disruption to the facility. ER probes were installed to support routine corrosion monitoring and future performance evaluation of the mitigation system.

This project demonstrates how custom inhibitor delivery systems and corrosion monitoring technologies can be implemented on active aboveground storage tanks to support long-term asset integrity and corrosion management strategies.
